WWE legend John Cena has announced his return to WWE as the official host of WrestleMania 42, set to take place in Las Vegas.

The 17-time world champion shared the news on social media, confirming his appearance at what WWE calls “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”

WWE later confirmed the announcement, noting that this marks Cena’s first return since retiring from in-ring competition last December following his loss to Gunther.

WrestleMania has played a central role in Cena’s career, featuring many of his most iconic matches against stars such as Big Show, Triple H, Batista, Shawn Michaels, The Miz, and Dwayne Johnson.

One of his landmark moments came at WrestleMania 20 in 2004, where he defeated Big Show to win the United States Championship.

Cena’s farewell run last year included matches against top names like CM Punk, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, Cody Rhodes, and Dominik Mysterio.

In his final active year, Cena captured a record-breaking 17th world title by defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 and completed a career Grand Slam by winning the Intercontinental Championship from Dominik Mysterio.

WrestleMania 42, scheduled for April 18–19, will feature major headline matches, including CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns, as well as a high-profile clash between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.

Cena’s return as host adds further star power to an already stacked event, reinforcing his enduring connection with WWE and its global audience.
