John Bercow, the former Speaker of the British House of Commons (2009–2019), stated today that the invitation of the deposed Shah’s son to the Munich Security Conference represents a "grave error in judgment" and political folly. He emphasized that the aspirations of the Iranian people transcend the binary of tyranny, seeking instead a democratic republic.
Bercow stated: "The international community and the ambassadors participating in the Munich Security Conference must understand that the alternative to the current bloody tyranny in Tehran is not a return to the Shah’s regime or feudal authority. We, along with the Iranian people, do not want a dictatorship in Iran—neither of the Mullahs' variety nor that of the Shah and his son. We seek to end the era of dictatorships forever."
He added: "The massive protests that have spanned all Iranian provinces and shaken the foundations of the *Velayat-e Faqih* regime have proven that the Iranian people possess the will for change. For this true opposition to succeed, it relies on the capable organization provided by the Iranian Resistance and the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) through the network of the Rebellious Youth stationed across the country, who work with high coordination to build the desired democratic alternative."
Bercow continued: "Throughout my long career in the British Parliament, I have never met an entity more committed and courageous in achieving democratic change than Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. She is a hero for humanity who has dedicated her life to the freedom of her people, whereas the Shah’s son has sacrificed nothing and has taken no tangible action to support the heroic struggle currently unfolding inside Iran."
He explained: "The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) possesses a clear vision for the country’s future embodied in the Ten-Point Plan, which guarantees the rule of law, the separation of religion and state, and the establishment of a non-nuclear Iran. This is the only path to ensure a peaceful transition of power through a constituent assembly that protects rights and freedoms."
Bercow emphasized: "The international community must stop sending the wrong signals to the regime, such as inviting the remnants of the defunct regime to international conferences. Such actions only serve the propaganda of the regime of Khamenei, the executioner, who wishes to portray monarchical despotism as the only alternative to his rule. What is required today is the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, the referral of the regime’s dossier to the International Criminal Court, and the recognition of the people’s right to resist."
Bercow concluded: "True change will come from within Iran, driven by the hands of the people and the Rebellious Youth. I will continue my absolute support for the Iranian Resistance and Mrs. Maryam Rajavi until justice and democracy are achieved in Iran—rights that the Iranian people have long waited to attain."
