On Tuesday, Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad sacked Nutu Santo, the former Tottenham, following poor results in both the Asian Champions League, and the domestic competition.

The team won only six of 12 Saudi Pro League games this season and was defeated by the Iraqi Air Force Club in the Asian Champions League on Monday.

Nuno took over at Al-Ittihad in July 2022 after being sacked by Tottenham. He managed to lead the team to capture two domestic titles, including the Saudi Pro League.

Assistant coach Hassan Khalifa will take interim charge of the team.

It was reported that the coach had a difficult relationship with Karim Benzema, and there were several reports about clashes between both the coach and the team's captain.

Al-Ittihad said in a statement: "The club has announced the end of its contract with Portuguese coach Nuno Santo.

"This decision comes after a comprehensive technical evaluation of the past phase during which he was in charge of coaching the first football team."
