The Embassy of Japan in Cairo announced the successful conclusion of a two-day Kirié (paper-cutting art) workshop, led by renowned Japanese artist Kubo Shu.
The event took place on March 26 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC) within the Embassy premises, and on March 27 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Kubo Shu, celebrated for his intricate paper-cut artworks originating from Japan, has also promoted cultural exchange through workshops, lectures, and similar activities in 17 countries worldwide. His notable contributions extend to designing New Year's greeting cards and covers for popular Japanese products.
During the workshop, participants engaged hands-on with Kirié techniques, using scalpels to cut sketches of Mount Fuji, sakura blossoms, lotus flowers, and more, before creating their own greeting cards. Kubo Shu additionally showcased his previous works depicting Japan's four seasons, offering Egyptians a unique opportunity to explore the delicate world of Japanese paper-cutting art up close and experience this traditional craft firsthand.
The Embassy extends its gratitude to all participants and looks forward to more cultural exchange initiatives.
