On Wednesday, Japan’s top government spokesperson said wearing masks outdoors to protect against the Coronavirus is not necessary providing social distancing is practiced.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno added at a press conference reported by the Kyoto news agency, that the government will continue to review anti-virus measures while monitoring the Coronavirus situation in Japan and consulting with medical experts.

"We recommend that people take off their masks outside as long as sufficient distance is maintained, especially when temperatures and humidity are high," Matsuno said.

The number of infections has been stabilizing in the country and the government is considering further border relaxing to be in line with those of the other group of seven countries.
