In a significant move to bolster development in Senegal, Japan has pledged a $31 million grant aimed at enhancing the nation's health, agriculture, and security sectors.

The agreement was signed by Senegal's Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, Abdoulaye Sarr, and Japan's Ambassador to Senegal, Izawa Osamu.

The Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation announced in a statement, reported by local newspapers, that this financial assistance from Japan is designed to strengthen various crucial sectors for Senegal's development.

The grant will focus on sectors such as health, agriculture, and security, with an overarching goal of better managing the country’s human capital.

According to the statement, the funding will significantly improve infrastructure and boost the capabilities of the health system.

It will also work towards increasing the productivity and sustainability of the agricultural sector.

This Japanese grant marks the first of its kind under the administration of Senegal’s new President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and follows a notable improvement in the country's economic outlook.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts Senegal's economic growth at 7.1% in 2024 and an impressive 10.1% in 2025, with inflation rates expected to remain within the target range set by the Central Bank of West African States by the end of 2025.
