Japan delivered a commanding performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Tunisia 4-0 in their Group F clash on Sunday morning to secure a historic milestone and strengthen their position in the tournament.
With this result, Japan became the first Asian nation in World Cup history to score four goals in a single match, underlining the growing strength and attacking evolution of the team on the global stage.
The victory saw Japan move up to four points, placing them second in the group behind leaders Netherlands on goal difference.
Sweden sit third with three points, while Tunisia remain bottom of the standings without a point.
Japan took control of the match early, with Daichi Kamada opening the scoring just four minutes after kick-off. Ayase Ueda doubled the lead in the 31st minute, giving the Samurai Blue a comfortable advantage heading into half-time.
In the second half, Japan maintained their dominance, adding two more goals through Junya Ito and Ueda, who completed his brace in the 69th and 83rd minutes respectively.
The result reflected Japan’s efficiency in front of goal and their ability to sustain pressure throughout the match.
For Tunisia, the defeat marked a disappointing exit from the tournament after back-to-back heavy losses.
The team also became the first Arab nation to be eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, following an earlier 5-1 defeat to Sweden.
