On Friday, Jan Vertonghen retired from international football after his country's team, Belgium, exit at the Euro 2024.
Vertonghen played 90 minutes during Belgium defeat against France in the round of last-16 on Monday. Belgium's Randal Kolo Muani shot into his own net coasting Belgium the tournament.
The 37-year-old didn't participate in Belgium’s opening Euro 2024 game which witnessed their 1-0 defeat to Slovakia but returned to the filed for their second following group games as they beat Romania 2-0 and then drew 0-0 with Ukraine.
Belgian FA said on social media: “From the training ground to the pitch, you’ve shown us what it means to be a true Red Devil,” adding: “We’ll miss you, Jan!”
Vertonghen made his Belgium debut in 2007 and played 157 caps, and scored 10 goals. He is the Belgian star with the most number with appearances for the Red Devils.
