Former Liverpool and Brighton midfielder James Milner has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40, bringing an end to one of the longest and most distinguished careers in English football.

Milner enjoyed a highly successful career, winning three Premier League titles, two with Manchester City and one with Liverpool FC.

During his time at Liverpool, he also lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy and played a key role in the club’s return to domestic and European success.

Having made his senior debut for Leeds United at just 16 years old, Milner went on to become the all-time appearance leader in Premier League history with 658 matches, surpassing the previous record held by Gareth Barry earlier this year.

At the international level, Milner earned 61 caps for England national football team. Throughout his career, he also represented Newcastle United FC, Aston Villa FC, and Brighton & Hove Albion FC, where he spent the final three seasons of his professional journey.
