President of Italy Sergio Mattarella had the sympathy of his citizens after admitting that he, too, was not going to the barber due to the closure of all non-essential businesses and stores to curb the outbreak of the new Coronavirus.

As the highly respected president in Italy prepared to deliver an official speech in front of the cameras, he heard the voice of his adviser, Giovanni Grasso, asking him to straighten a tuft of his hair.

After settling it, the president said, "Giovanni ... I, too, no longer go to the barber ..."

After the speech was recorded, it was distributed to the media without any breakdown of the incident.

The Presidential palace released the video without making the cuts and later on it apologized, but the uncut moment has delighted internet users. It went viral on social media and was shared  widely.

In his speech, the second since the outbreak in Italy, Sergio Mattarella appealed to European leaders, saying: "Everyone must understand before it is too late the seriousness of the threat the virus poses to Europe."

Sergio Matarella, 78, known for his elegance and simplicity, is very popular in Italy.

Europe must adopt new measures to confront the threat posed by the coronavirus, Italian President Sergio Mattarella said on Friday, telling European Union leaders they had to react before it was too late.

Mattarella’s message, made in a rare, televised address to the nation, came after EU leaders had failed to agree on a common approach to dealing with the escalating economic fallout from the pandemic.

“New initiatives are vital to overcome old ways of thinking that are now out of touch with the reality of the dramatic conditions facing our continent,” Mattarella said.

“I hope everyone fully understands the seriousness of the threat faced by Europe before it is too late.”
