Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Wednesday reiterated Italy's support for Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU).
This came during his meeting with a Ukrainian delegation headed by Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal, who is currently visiting Italy to participate in a bilateral conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, according to the Italian news agency "ANSA".
"Italy strongly supports Ukraine's accession to the European Union as soon as possible, and we appreciate its government's commitment to the course of reforms to bring it in line with EU standards," Mattarella said.
"I affirm Italy's support for Ukraine in all fields and as long as it is necessary," the Italian president added, noting that defending Ukraine's independence, freedom and territorial integrity is a fundamental value for all countries of the world that believe in the freedom of people.
