Thousands of Israeli nationalists and extremist protesters took to the streets on Thursday in Jerusalem city in a massive demonstration to urge the government not to demolish a West Bank settlement outpost, according to Israeli media.

The Israeli demonstrators gathered in different parts of the ancient city and tried to reach the parliament building, the Israeli media reported.

The furious protesters expressed their opposition to the government's West Bank settlement policies, shouted chants against Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, and waved Israeli flags, the reports said.

The Homesh outpost is considered illegal by the Israeli government. It is the site of a former settlement evacuated as part of Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005.

However, settlers have recently re-established an unauthorized outpost at the site, one of dozens of outposts in the occupied West Bank that are considered illegal but tolerated by the government.
