The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the reopening of the Swiss embassy in Baghdad after 33 years of closure.
The Foreign Ministry stated - in a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency - that this step comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Switzerland, and reflects the desire of both sides to consolidate cooperation in various fields, as it represents a positive sign in the path of diplomatic relations, and opens new horizons for fruitful cooperation between the two countries in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples.
The Foreign Ministry expressed its aspiration to strengthen partnerships and develop bilateral dialogue with Switzerland, and to work on creating appropriate conditions for the success of joint efforts to push cooperation paths forward.
Earlier today, Switzerland announced the reopening of its embassy in Iraq, after a 33-year hiatus, within the framework of the Swiss Federal Council's strategy for the Middle East and North Africa region 2021-2024.
