The Iraqi national football team will face the Spanish national football team in an international friendly on June 4, as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Iraqi Football Association announced on Friday.

According to an official statement, the match will be played at the Estadio Riazor, home of Deportivo La Coruña, as both teams continue their build-up for the tournament scheduled to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The Iraqi Football Association confirmed that final arrangements for the fixture were completed by federation president Adnan Dirjal during the 76th FIFA Congress held in Vancouver, Canada.

The encounter will be only the second meeting between the two sides. Their previous clash took place at the 2009 Confederations Cup, where Spain won 1-0.

The friendly is part of Iraq’s broader preparation plan, which includes a training camp in Spain running from May 18 to June 5.

Iraq has been drawn in Group Nine for the 2026 World Cup alongside France, Norway, and Senegal, marking a challenging group stage campaign for the Asian side.
