Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani stated that Iraq will not stand by passively in the face of the serious repercussions unfolding in Syria.
In a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq will exert all efforts to safeguard both its own security and that of Syria.
He explained that Iraq has previously suffered from terrorism and the consequences of extremist groups taking control of areas in Syria, and that it will not allow such a situation to repeat. He pointed out that the ongoing situation in Syria benefits Israeli occupation forces, which have deliberately targeted Syrian military sites, facilitating the expansion of terrorist groups in the region. Additionally, these groups have shown no support for the Palestinian people or any clear condemnation of the aggression in Gaza.
