Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi affirmed that Egypt and Iran—two great nations with ancient civilizations and deep-rooted histories—play a pivotal role in shaping peace and stability across the region. His comments came during a joint press conference in Cairo with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdelatty.
Araghchi described current bilateral relations as progressing in an unprecedented and promising direction, underscoring the presence of strong political will on both sides to expand cooperation. “Today, the path is more open than ever before,” he said, noting that this momentum marks a significant shift in regional diplomacy.
The two foreign ministers agreed to continue regular political consultations and to deepen collaboration, particularly in trade and tourism. Araghchi highlighted the frequency of their meetings—over ten to date—as evidence of the shared determination to strengthen ties and promote regional coordination.
The discussions also covered pressing regional issues, with a special focus on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the broader Palestinian cause, and the situations in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and condemned the ongoing Israeli violations in the region.
He praised the efforts of Egypt and Qatar to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing hope for a sustainable agreement that includes prisoner exchanges and unimpeded humanitarian access. He emphasized the need for a ceasefire that genuinely reflects the will of the people of Gaza and protects their fundamental rights.
Araghchi also expressed strong confidence in Egypt’s continued success as a trusted regional mediator. He voiced optimism that Egypt’s balanced diplomacy would help achieve tangible progress in de-escalating tensions and fostering long-term peace in the region.
