Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, said no US military forces were involved in the drone attack on a military factory in Iran, but he declined to give further details.
Iran said it had intercepted drones targeting a military factory near the central city of Isfahan, adding that there were no injuries or serious damage.
An Israeli army spokesman declined to comment.
US officials were referring to an Israeli role in the attack, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing several unnamed sources.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that it appeared Israel was involved in the attack. Several other US officials declined to comment other than to say Washington played no role.
Tehran did not hold anyone responsible for what Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Hossein Abdullahian described as a "cowardly" attack that was aimed at creating "a state of insecurity" in Iran.
