Iran has called on the United States to scale back what it described as “excessive demands,” as negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continue to face setbacks.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that the immediate priority for Tehran is to bring the war to an end, urging Washington to adopt what he described as a more reasonable approach. He emphasized that progress would depend on reducing demands and rebuilding trust between the two sides.

Baghaei also pointed to past negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme, saying that previous diplomatic efforts were undermined by military actions, which he argued should not be repeated. His remarks reflect continued caution within Tehran regarding the direction and credibility of current talks.

Despite the tensions, US President Donald Trump said that discussions with Iran have been “very positive,” suggesting that ongoing contacts could lead to a constructive outcome. In a statement, he indicated that US representatives are actively engaged in dialogue that may produce results beneficial to all parties.

Earlier, Iran announced that it had presented a 14-point proposal focused on ending the conflict, with the United States reportedly responding through intermediaries in Pakistan.
