On Friday, FIFA issued a statement saying that the Iranian Football Federation has turned down its plans to boycott the World Cup 2026 draw scheduled for today.
FIFA said that Iran has sent a delegation to the United States to attend the event.
Iran had requested nine visas for its delegation, and Iranian federation spokesperson Amir Mehdi Alavi was quoted as saying that the United States granted only four visas, including one for national team coach Amir Ghalenoei.
Iranian federation president Mehdi Taj did not receive a visa.
The United States has long imposed strict restrictions on issuing visas to Iranians due to political and security reasons.
It is noteworthy that the Iranian Football Federation had earlier decided to boycott the draw in protest over the limited number of visas issued for its delegation, according to Reuters.
