Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has warned it could fully shut down the Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump follows through on threats to target Iranian energy facilities.

According to Reuters, Iranian officials also warned that energy infrastructure in countries hosting US military bases would be considered legitimate targets in the event of an attack.

The escalation comes after Trump issued a deadline for Iran to reopen the strategic waterway, warning of severe consequences if it fails to comply.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that if Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours without any threat to shipping, the US would launch strikes to destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure, starting with its largest facilities.

Iranian military officials have reiterated similar warnings in recent days, signaling that any attack on the country’s oil and energy infrastructure would trigger a broader response targeting US-linked assets across the region.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central military command indicated that potential targets could include energy infrastructure, information technology systems, and water desalination facilities associated with the US and its allies.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, handling a significant share of global oil and energy supplies, raising concerns over potential disruptions to global markets if tensions continue to escalate.
