Iran, Syria Delegations Meet on Sidelines of Astana Meeting

Iran's delegation to the Astana meeting met with the Syrian delegation on Wednesday morning, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry.

The two parties reviewed the current political and security developments in Syria during the discussion. They also denounced the US's prolonged occupation of Syrian territory and emphasised the importance of pursuing Syria's 7th Constitutional Conference.

They also demanded that harsh sanctions against Syria be lifted, and denounced the Zionist regime's attacks on Syria's infrastructure.

Lebanon's envoy, whose country has observer status at the meeting, met with the Iranian team on the margins of the Astana meeting.

The two parties discussed the Astana Peace Process and its role in reducing battle zones, establishing a political process, constituting a constitutional committee, and establishing a committee to look into the question of the missing during this discussion.

They also emphasised that the Astana negotiations are the only vehicle that has been successful in laying the ground for a political solution in Syria.
