Iran's national football team is scheduled to arrive in Mexico on Sunday morning as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
According to a statement released by the Iranian Football Federation's media office and cited by AFP, the team will depart its training camp in Antalya, Turkey, on June 6 and travel to Tijuana, Mexico, where it will begin the final stage of its World Cup preparations.
Iran is currently continuing its training program in Turkey while players await the completion of visa procedures for entry into the United States, where the team will play all three of its group-stage matches.
The federation's president, Mehdi Taj, expressed confidence that Mexican visas will be issued within days, followed by an expedited process for U.S. visas to ensure the squad's full readiness before the tournament.
Iran was forced to alter its pre-World Cup plans after initially intending to hold its training camp in Tucson, Arizona. The camp was subsequently moved to Turkey and later to Mexico.
Drawn in the same group as Egypt, Iran will open its World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, before facing Belgium on June 21. The group stage concludes with a highly anticipated clash against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
Before traveling to Mexico, Iran will play one final warm-up match against Mali on Thursday in Antalya.
