Against religious teachings, Iran's supreme leader called on all Muslims performing Hajj pilgrimage this year, not only to talk politics, but to have "active participation" in efforts to block the U.S. Middle East peace plan.

In a letter Saturday marking the Hajj, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the still-unreleased U.S. plan was a "ruse" that's "doomed to failure". He called upon all Muslims to support the Palestinian people in their opposition to the US President Donald Trump administration's "deal of the century.

"The ploy of the 'deal of the century' which is being plotted by the oppressive America and its treasonous cohorts is a crime against human society, and not just the Palestinian nation," the Leader said Saturday in his annual Hajj message.

"We are inviting everyone to actively participate in defeating the enemy's ploy and deception and believe that with the power and strength from God, this and all other ploys of the imperialist front is doomed to failure vis-a-vis the efforts and faith of the resistance front," he added.

The Leader said the pilgrimage presents an opportunity for oppressed Muslim nations to “spread awareness” and denounce oppression and the rule of “arrogant world powers”.

In earlier remarks, the Iranian supreme leader had insisted that  the ‘Deal of the Century’ will not be accepted and it will never be realized; the United States and its cohorts will certainly face failure on this matter.

The Trump administration plan centers on a $50 billion Palestinian investment and infrastructure proposal, but avoids core political issues that are key to resolving the dispute.

This year's pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia comes amid heightened tensions in the nearby Persian Gulf between the U.S. and Iran.

According to Islamic religious teachings, Muslims are directed to abandon political discussions, arguments and anything that might hurt the submissive spirit in performing hajj rituals.
