Iranian authorities have halted oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions following what Tehran described as a violation of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
Fars News Agency reported that the move came in response to alleged Israeli actions breaching the truce. Reuters later confirmed that vessels in the area received messages from the Iranian navy stating that the strait remains closed.
The development marks a significant threat to global energy markets, as the Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical corridor for a substantial share of the world’s oil shipments.
The escalation comes amid rising regional tensions, fueling concerns over potential disruptions to maritime trade and a possible surge in global energy prices in the near term.
