The head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, Mohammad Mahdi Bakhtiari, announced negotiations with his Saudi counterpart after the end of the Hajj ceremonies to develop the air travel network between the two countries.

According to the Iranian news agency, Bakhtiari said that negotiations and consultations are underway to operate flights from 21 cities between Iran and Saudi Arabia, in addition to the current Hajj flights.

Bakhtiari invited his Saudi counterpart to visit Iran to reach a result regarding the establishment of flights and the development of the air travel network between the two countries, explaining that this invitation aims to discuss common issues and request Iranian airlines to operate flights from various cities in Iran to Saudi Arabia.

The Iranian official stated that the agenda of the Civil Aviation Organization in both countries includes flights between Mashhad-Jeddah and Mashhad-Medina to meet citizens' demands, and confirmed that this will be done in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the end of the Hajj season in August.

It is worth mentioning that Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed last March to restore relations between the two regional powers after they were severed in 2016.
