Iranian security forces have arrested nearly 3,000 people accused of involvement in armed violence and terrorism-related activities during recent unrest across several provinces, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

The report said security operations targeted suspected leaders of armed groups in the provinces of Kerman, Kermanshah, Golestan and Hormozgan, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of large quantities of weapons and explosive materials.

In Kerman, provincial police chief Colonel Akbar Najafi announced the arrest of five individuals accused of sabotage after attacks on a fuel station and a Basij base. Authorities said flammable materials were found in their possession.

In southern Iran, Hormozgan police chief Ali Akbar Javidan said a ten-member cell, including eight men and two women, was detained in connection with violent unrest in the port city of Bandar Abbas. Security forces reportedly seized 65 petrol bombs, 25 batteries, two firearms, a satellite signal receiver and materials used to manufacture hand grenades.

Tasnim also quoted Kermanshah Governor Manouchehr Habibi as saying detainees in the province were carrying firearms, walkie-talkies and homemade explosive devices. He described the incidents as organised operations rather than ordinary protests, warning that the armed groups were seeking to cause mass casualties.

In northern Iran, Golestan provincial police said they dismantled what they described as an organised hideout in the city of Azadshahr and arrested a key leader linked to armed riots. The suspect reportedly confessed to carrying out attacks using swords and petrol bombs and admitted to firing directly at civilians and security forces.

Authorities said damage to public property, including government buildings, banks, ATMs and shops, has exceeded 100 billion tomans. In a separate operation, security forces also arrested what officials described as one of the province’s most dangerous armed terrorists, following intelligence-led investigations and cooperation from local residents.

The arrests come as Iran continues sweeping security operations amid heightened tensions, with officials insisting the measures are aimed at restoring order and preventing further violence.
