Int’l Cooperation Minister Meets UNDP Resident Representative

The Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat held a meeting with Alessandro Fracassetti, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting was held to chart the new roadmap for the Strategic Partnership Framework 2023-2027 and assess the results of the 2018-2022 partnership framework.

Spelling out the results of the agreement, the Minister noted that the 2018-2022 strategic partnership framework includes 45 projects that are implemented across 20 governorates and is worth $250 million.

Egypt is focused on localizing the global goals and echoing international roadmaps, which is why transitioning to a green economy and powering a digital transformation are regarded as key priorities for the 2023-2027 partnership framework.

To localize global agendas, the Ministry of International Cooperation’s portfolio includes 34 projects that meet Goal 7 of the SDGs (Clean and Affordable Energy), totaling $5.95 billion and representing 23.2% of official development assistance (ODA).

During the meeting, Al-Mashat commended the role of the staff and teams from the Ministry of International Cooperation, the United Nations, and other national entities for their effective communication and participation throughout the consultation process to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership framework.

The Minister explained that the Ministry of International Cooperation embraces a participatory and inclusive approach to preparing country strategies with all multilateral and bilateral development partners, with further strategies currently underway that include the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the African Development Bank, in order to push ahead with development cooperation and development financing to support Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Al-Mashat also referred to the discussions that take place under the presidential initiative "A Decent Life", which is the largest national project in the history of Egypt that aims to achieve integrated development for more than half of the population, targeting rural communities in particular that are most in need.

Since 1945, Egypt has been a strong partner of the United Nations, hosting around 38 United Nations offices and is regarded as one of the largest regional centers of the United Nations.
