On Friday, Inter Milan reached an official agreement with Romanian coach Cristian Chivu, former manager of Parma, to take over as head coach of the first team, succeeding Italian Simone Inzaghi.

Inzaghi departed Inter Milan to take over as head coach of Saudi club Al Hilal in the upcoming period.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement involves a two-year contract, a decisive step taken after negotiations with Cesc Fàbregas, coach of Como, fell through.

Fàbregas had been a prominent candidate for the position.

Cristian Chivu is no stranger to Inter fans, having played for the club during his playing career.

He also held various coaching roles in the club’s youth sector, where he led the U-19 team to the Italian youth league title.

Last season, Chivu took on his first managerial experience at the senior level with Parma, stepping in under difficult circumstances when the team was 18th in Serie A, just one spot above relegation, during the 26th round of the league.

However, Chivu successfully guided Parma to safety, finishing the season in 16th place, avoiding relegation to Serie B.
