Inter Milan are reportedly planning to extend the contract of head coach Christian Chievo following the team’s impressive performances this season, as the Nerazzurri continue to lead the Serie A table.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter’s management is considering renewing Chievo’s deal for an additional season, extending it to June 30, 2028, from its current expiration of June 30, 2027.
The extension is expected to include a salary increase at the end of the current campaign.
Inter Milan currently sit atop the Serie A standings with 55 points after 23 rounds, five points clear of city rivals AC Milan.
The team is preparing to face Sassuolo on Sunday evening in Round 24 of the league. Sassuolo occupy 11th place with 29 points.
Chievo has guided Inter Milan back to the summit of Italian football this season, leading a squad that has shown remarkable cohesion and determination to challenge for the Serie A title following the departure of former coach Simone Inzaghi.
The team’s strong form has made it difficult for opponents to challenge them, highlighted by a 2-1 victory over Torino in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals, which secured Inter a place in the semifinals and provided a boost ahead of the clash with Sassuolo.
Extending Chievo’s contract would signal Inter’s confidence in the coach’s leadership as they aim to consolidate their domestic dominance and pursue further success in cup competitions.
