Officials at Inter Milan have begun steps to secure the future of head coach Cristian Chivu amid growing interest from other European clubs.
According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter’s management has made a strategic decision to extend Chivu’s contract until the summer of 2029, even though his current deal runs until June 2027.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days.
The move reflects the club’s strong confidence in the Romanian coach and his long term project, especially after the impressive results he achieved in his first season in charge following the departure of Simone Inzaghi.
Chivu, who previously coached Parma Calcio 1913, has led Inter to the top of the Serie A standings with a comfortable seven point lead over their traditional rivals AC Milan.
Despite a disappointing exit from the UEFA Champions League, the club’s ownership still views Chivu as the right figure to shape Inter’s future.
This belief prompted the leadership to move quickly to secure his long term stay and ward off potential offers from other European teams.
Inter’s management is also planning to give Chivu a significant budget in the upcoming summer transfer window to strengthen the squad with players capable of competing on the European stage.
