Cristian Chivu has signed a one-year contract extension with Inter Milan that will keep him at the club until 2028, following a remarkable debut season in which he guided the Italian giants to a Serie A and Coppa Italia double.

Inter confirmed the renewal in an official statement, expressing delight at securing the Romanian coach’s future after a highly successful campaign that exceeded expectations.

Chivu, who reportedly received a significant pay rise to nearly €3 million per year, took charge of the Nerazzurri last summer after Simone Inzaghi departed for Saudi side Al-Hilal.

Despite initial scepticism due to his limited senior coaching experience, the 45-year-old quickly transformed Inter into domestic champions, steering them to their 21st league title before defeating Lazio to lift the Italian Cup.

Chivu, a former Inter player who won the historic treble in 2010, has now solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s emerging elite coaches.

Inter will now look to build on their domestic dominance and improve their European performances following last season’s disappointing Champions League exit.
