According to several reports on Monday, an inquiry into a bombing in April that injured many US troops at a post in Syria is now being looked into as an insider attack.

According to the Associated Press, investigators believe one or more service members put a device inside a camp at Green Village base in Syria, which triggered the April 7 detonation.

"At this point, these are just allegations. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until/unless convicted in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing, which may or may not develop sufficient evidence to identify a perpetrator(s) and have enough evidence to ensure a conviction in a court of law. No further information will be released at this time," the military said, per CNN.

According to the Associated Press, a possible suspect is currently in the United States as the Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations continue to investigate the matter. There has been no mention of a motivation.

Following the incident, which occurred in the middle of the night, at least four military personnel were screened for traumatic brain injury. According to CNN, security footage showed a "figure moving fast," albeit it is unclear whether the figure was a single inpidual.

The blast was thought to have been caused by "deliberate placement of explosive charges by an unidentified inpidual(s) at an ammo holding area and shower facility," according to reports," Joint Task Force and Operation Inherent Resolve officials said, CBS News reported.

The Pentagon first stated that the bombing at the installation was caused by "indirect fire" from outside the camp, most likely rocket or mortar fire, but additional examination revealed indications of an inside job.

The US has about 900 personnel in Syria, where they are assisting in the training and advice of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
