Neymar da Silva, captain of Brazilian club Santos, has suffered another major setback after sustaining a muscle injury that will rule him out of Brazil’s upcoming international camp.
According to Brazil’s Globo Esporte, Neymar picked up a thigh injury just before coach Carlo Ancelotti was set to announce the Seleção squad for their final World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.
This means the Brazilian star will extend his absence from the national team, having last featured in October 2023 when he tore his ACL in a match against Uruguay.
His latest setback adds to a long list of injuries that have plagued him since his move to Saudi side Al-Hilal and continued even after his much-anticipated return to boyhood club Santos earlier this year.
Despite high expectations upon his comeback, Neymar has only managed 15 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists—numbers that fall well short of the hopes pinned on him. As a result, his international future with Brazil remains clouded in uncertainty.
