Lights will be shed on Saturday, July 6 at Cairo Stadium, where Egypt will play their game against South Africa in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. SEE presents the Pharaohs‘ history against Bafana Bafana in the AFCON.

The hosts played against South Africa on only two occasions in this showpiece tournament. The seven-time title managed to pull off the victory in both confrontations.

South Africa 1996:

The first game between both teams was in AFCON 1996, which was held in South Africa. Pharaohs ended that game with a narrow victory after Egypt's former forward Ahmed El-Kas scored the only goal of the game.

Burkina Faso 1998:

The Bafana Bafana were the Pharaohs' gate to claim their fourth title after Egypt defeated South Africa 2-1 in the final leg of the tournament.

2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers:

The last competitive games between both teams were in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when the one-time title holders defeated the seven-time champions (1-0), before holding a goalless draw In Egypt. This draw prevented the Pharaohs from participating in the 2012 AFCON.

Egypt played seven friendlies against South Africa, with five victories for Bafana Bafana against two triumphs for Pharaohs.
