The Indonesian government has sent the first batch of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip on Saturday, aimed at supporting Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict.

The consignment, weighing 51.5 tons, was dispatched from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta under the supervision of President Joko Widodo.

The aid package comprises medical equipment, food supplies, blankets, tents, and other logistical materials sourced from civilian entities.

Speaking from the airbase, President Widodo reaffirmed Indonesia's continuous support for the Palestinian people's struggle.

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced yesterday that the aid would be handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent, and subsequently distributed in Gaza by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

This procedure is due to the Egyptian Red Crescent being the sole organization permitted to deliver aid to Gaza.

Indonesia, being the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, has always been a staunch supporter of the Palestinians and does not maintain formal diplomatic relations with Israel.
