India's Bundeli Lok Nritya Kala Parshid Performs in Cairo

In cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, the Maulana Azad Center for Indian Culture and the Indian Embassy in Cairo organized the Indian Dance Folk Dance Performance.

At the Gomhouriya Theatre in Cairo, spectators enjoyed a special folk concert performed by the Bundeli Lok Nritya Kala Parshid group, from the Indian state of Madhya. Egyptian clappers were amused by the Rai and Badahy dances.

The same group is also presenting unique shows at the 7th International Festivals for Drums and Folk Arts.

The Rai Dance

Climate changes play a vital role in Indian rural life. Inhabitants there celebrate the climatic season by music and dancing. ِAmngost the several dances designed to celebrate the spring's arrival at the Madhya Pradesh state is the Rai.

The Rai starts during the holy festival and continues throughout the year. It depicts happiness amongst the public. On the other hand, it portrays the victorious armies' arrival.

The Badahy Dance

Wearing multi-color costumes, inhabitants of the Bundelkhand area perform the traditional dance called Badahy, which depicts jolly.

The Badahy, which includes acrobatic movements,  is usually danced during weddings, festivals, and birth celebrations in the area.

About Santosh Panday

Regarding the group's leader, Santosh Panday is 90-year-old. He is an acclaimed Rai folk dancer who has been honored with several awards in India.
