Data from the Federal Ministry of Health in India reveal that the infections with novel Coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) hit new records within the last 24 hours.

Various states in the country registered 184, 372 confirmed cases.

The frightening figures were registered amidst the spike of the second wave of the deadly virus that is hitting India now.

Official statics show that there are 13.9 cases and more than 172,085 deaths.

India comes second behind the United States of America (USA) in the total number of infections with COVID-19 and it surpassed Brazil during the last few days

The USA registered 32 million infections since the outbreak of the disease.

According to Reuter's news agency, India registered 13.53 million infections compared to 13.45 million infections in Brazil.

A count authored by the US Johns Hopkins University assures that the death toll of COVID-19 in India exceeds what has been recorded in Brazil.

On the other hand, the health authorities in India warn of the percussions of the increase in infections across the country throughout the last week.

The rate of deaths is still the highest in the world within five months.

Reports indicate that India suffers from the fastest pace of infection with COVID-19 on the planet by mid-April.

However, a number of the Indian states are mulling over the possibility of imposing additional restrictions in an attempt to slow the infections.

On his part, Narendra Modi, India's Prime Minister, has announced the launching of the campaign to vaccinate millions of his countrymen with the anti-Corona vaccine.

He pointed out that the intensified campaign will run for four days.

Maharashtra, the Indian state worst affected by the coronavirus, has announced sweeping new restrictions amid a wave of Covid-19 infections, as the BBC said.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stopped short of calling it a lockdown, but said for the next 15 days, only essential services would function.

Thackeray said gatherings of more than four and non-essential travel on public transport would be banned.

"The war has begun again," the chief minister said at a press conference.
