India is preparing for a major expansion of its space program, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing plans to launch 50 rockets every year and establish up to five space start-ups within the next five years.

Speaking in a recorded message at an event in New Delhi on Saturday, Modi revealed that India’s first privately built Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will be launched soon, according to Bloomberg.

This marks a significant milestone as private industry becomes increasingly involved in India’s space sector.

S. Somanath, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), confirmed during the event that India will launch a US-built communications satellite within two months. This will be followed by a radar satellite developed in partnership between NASA and ISRO, highlighting growing international cooperation in space technology.

The ambitious plan reflects India’s drive to position itself as a global leader in space exploration and innovation, building on recent achievements such as the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission.
