India: At Least 8 Killed, 13 Injured in Hospital Fire (Video)

On Monday, at least 8 people were killed and 13 others were seriously injured after a massive fire broke out in a private hospital in Jabalpur in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. today, as a fire broke out at a New Life Multispeciality Hospital in the city's Chandal Bhatta district, according to the Times of India

"Eight Casualties have been confirmed so far, the condition of two others is critical. The injured were rushed to different hospitals in the city. As of now, there is no one trapped inside the hospital," A security source said.

According to the sources, among the eight deaths, 3-4 may be hospital employees.

A committee was formed to investigate the causes of the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by the explosion of the generator in the hospital.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote on Twitter, “Saddened with the news of a major fire at a hospital in Jabalpur. I am in touch with the local administration and have directed the chief secretary to monitor the incident. The rescue operations are underway".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi later expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all assistance to those affected,” the PMO tweeted.
