EgyptAir operated Africa’s first “green flight” on Saturday, provided with all environmentally friendly products and services.

The plane, chaired by Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar and 219 passengers on board, kicked off from Cairo International Airport to Paris.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight No. "MS 799" coincides with the celebration of the 92nd National Day of Egyptian Civil Aviation, which falls on January 26 of each year.

On his part, Manar asserted that the ministry’s strategy in the field of environment comes from the political leadership that directs great importance to the environment and confronting the effects of climate change to accomplish Egypt’s vision 2030.

Moreover, he affirmed that the success of this operation will be the beginning of the ministry’s plan to confront the effects of climate change through an “integrated ecosystem” that adheres to international legislation to domestic aviation standards.

In like manner, Amr Abou El Enein, the pilot who will fly the plane on the return flight from Paris, expressed his deep happiness with the process. Abou El Enein also noted that all flights in the near future will be environmentally friendly, which highlights EgyptAir's leadership in the air transport industry.

EgyptAir aims to reduce single-use plastics on flights by 90 percent. The airline has identified 27 single-use plastic products, which have been replaced with sustainable alternatives
