Former Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimović has praised Cape Verde for their remarkable FIFA World Cup campaign after the African nation pushed defending champions Argentina to the limit in the Round of 32.
Argentina secured a dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory after the teams were locked at 1-1 at the end of regular time, booking their place in the Round of 16.
Although Cape Verde exited the tournament, they earned widespread admiration after becoming the smallest nation by population ever to reach the FIFA World Cup knockout stage.

Speaking as a pundit on Fox Sports, Ibrahimović applauded the Blue Sharks for their fearless performance and determination.
"I can stand here and give applause to Cape Verde. Small island with big dreams. They almost rocked the big giant."
The former FC Barcelona and Manchester United F.C. striker described the Cape Verde players as heroes, emphasizing that they remained unbeaten in normal time throughout the tournament.
"These guys are heroes. They didn't lose any game during 90 minutes. It's important to say that, and they almost made it in this game."
Ibrahimović also highlighted the team's belief despite being underestimated on the world stage.
"The world didn't believe it was possible, but that small island believed it was possible. I'm sure when they return home, they're going to have a big party and receive a red-carpet welcome."
The Swedish football icon admitted he was disappointed to see Cape Verde eliminated but insisted the team's achievements would be remembered for years to come.
"What they did will remain in the history books. They made a dream come true, and I almost shed tears because I enjoyed this moment, seeing these images."
Cape Verde's inspiring World Cup journey came to an end after their courageous display against Argentina, but their historic run has been widely celebrated as one of the tournament's greatest success stories.
