Zamalek's president Mortada Mansour has declared on Saturday that he refuses to play the CAF Super Cup against Tunisia's Esperance in Qatar.
"I am ready to engage in a conflict with the CAF," Mansour said. "I am to play the game versus Tunisia's Esperance in Tunisia, but I am not going to send my team to play the encounter in Qatar," he added.
"It is impossible to play in Qatar, and my reaction to this matter will be unexpected," Zamalek's president concluded.
Noteworthy, Zamalek clinched the Confederation Cup for the first time in their history after securing the victory in a dramatic penalty shootout against RS Berkane at Burj Al Arab Stadium (5-3) in May.
The White Knights are seeking to qualify for the last 16 of the CAF Champions League as they will play the second leg versus Generation Foot on Thursday, October 24. CAF decided to restage the Champions League match between Egypt’s Zamalek and Senegal’s Generation Foot in Cairo.
The Whites were due to host the Senegalese side at Cairo’s Petro Sport Stadium on Saturday, September 29, but the match was moved to Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium a day later due to claimed security reasons presented by Zamalek in an official letter to CAF.
Following its decision, Mansour blasted on Tuesday, October 8 the CAF, saying, "CAF’s decision is unfair because the game was delayed due to security concerns in the capital.”
