Hurghada became the fastest growing destination on the planet in terms of international arrivals in 2018, according to figures from Euromonitor International.

The Red Sea resort city received 46.8% more people last year than in 2017, the Telegraph reported.

Hurghada wasn't the only Egyptian city in the world's most visited cities, but Cairo also witnessed an increase of 31.1% in 2018.

Cairo and Hurghada were ranked 42nd and 82nd, respectively, in Euromonitor International's annual report on the world’s most visited 100 cities.

The report attributed the boost in arrivals to Egypt to luring new investments, attracting new tourist markets, and launching effective marketing campaigns, as well as lifting travel bans on some Egyptian destinations such as Sharm El Sheikh and Taba.

Hurghada is expected to advance 19 ranks to score 63rd in 2019 with an increase of 41.3% to reach 3.8 million visitors, compared to 2.7 million in 2018, and 1.8 million in 2017.

The rise in Hurghada's international arrivals came as a result of security stability, as the destination is safe for Europeans, especially those who are coming from Germany, Russia, and Poland.

Cairo also is forecast to advance five places to record 37th in 2019

"While traditional locations such as Milan, Berlin, and Vienna have declined in the ranking, due to lower appeal among visitors and shifts of visitors towards Egypt, Turkey and Asian destinations, upcoming destinations such as Croatia, Slovenia and Sweden have moved up," the report mentioned.

The two Egyptian destinations weren't only, which saw an increase in the arrivals, Turkish and Indian cities also witnessed a rise.

Hong Kong topped the world's most visited cities with 29.2 million tourists, followed by Bangkok, then London.
