Hungary denounced Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson’s statement that the Ukrainian crisis will end with Russia's "defeat", affirming that the dangerous remarks demonstrate the EU's "pro-war stance".

"I think this is a very dangerous statement because it links the end of the crisis to a military event that we don't know when it will happen, if at all," Hungarian Foreign Ministry Secretary of State for Bilateral Relations Tamas Menzer wrote on Facebook.

In the same vein, Menzer stressed that Hungary calls for "immediate peace" not "a long war."

Earlier, the European Commission denounced Hungary's poster campaign comparing EU sanctions on Russia to bombs as "inappropriate".

"It is inappropriate to show pictures of bombs or of missiles in relation to the sanctions, thinking that the aim of the sanctions is precisely to stop the bombs from falling on Ukraine," Dana Spinant, the European Commission's deputy chief spokesperson, told reporters.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has recently affirmed that his country is not the only country opposing the proposal of the price cap on Russian gas.

"The Brussels proposals contrast sharply with the national interests of Hungary. Fortunately, we are not alone," Orban wrote on his Facebook page.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the Brussels summit would be an opportunity to defend the interests of his country.
