Hundreds Protest in Columbus after Police Shoot Girl

Hundreds of people took to the street in Columbus, Ohio, US, on Tuesday protesting against the police after shooting a 16-year-old girl.

The girl was later identified as Ma’Khia Bryant, and the incident of her shooting took place minutes before Derek Chauvin, the police officer who accused of killing George Floyd.

In video footage released by the Columbus Police Department, that girl was chased by a man who aimed to stab her, shortly she fell into the ground nearby a police officer who shot the man, and one of the bullets hit the girl.

The department added that it received a 911 call from a female who reported a stabbing attempt.

Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther reacted to the video saying: "It's a tragic day in the city of Columbus. It's a horrible, heartbreaking situation."

He added: "We felt transparency in sharing this footage, as incomplete as it is at this time."

The protestors gathered before the headquarter of the city's police department, chanting with the name of Bryant, however, no violent acts were reported during the demonstration.
