Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, held a meeting with Emam Ashour after yesterday's match against Zimbabwe in the first round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The meeting aimed to reassure Ashour after his early substitution, which saw Mostafa Mohamed replace him.
Hassan told Ashour, "I need you in the playmaker position because you have great potential, and I'm fully convinced of your abilities. Substituting you was in your best interest and the best interest of the team because you wouldn't have been able to handle the pressure if you weren't at your peak fitness."
Hassan emphasized to Ashour that the substitution was in the team's best interest, as he was showing signs of physical fatigue from his recent absence from matches and needed to gradually return to playing. He also stressed Ashour's importance to the team once he reaches full fitness, adding that he will have a significant role to play in upcoming matches.
