Following Egypt's 3-1 victory over Benin and qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals, Hossam Hassan, the national team coach, dedicated the win to the Egyptian people and to Mohamed Hamdy, expressing his sadness over the player's ACL injury.
In a press conference after the match, Hassan added, "We are delighted with the win and qualification for the quarterfinals in what has been the strongest tournament in years. Benin is a respectable team and played well. As I said, there are no easy teams."
He continued, "I thank the players for their tremendous effort. The entire team will fight in the quarterfinal match and dedicate this victory to Mohamed Hamdy."
He further stated, "Trezeguet has an ankle ligament injury and is being prepared for the upcoming matches. I respect all the teams, but as Egypt, we are aiming for victory and the title. Football doesn't recognize history; it only recognizes performance on the field."
He concluded: "The national team players have a high spirit and I thank them for their efforts in the tournament. I have worked with many great coaches, but Mahmoud El-Gohary will always be a big name for me, and I gained great experience from them. We will start preparing for the quarter-final match tomorrow, and we are ready to face any team. I have 27 great players, and I thank the medical and administrative staff and everyone within the national team."
