Sudan's Higher Health Committee Mulls over Closure due to COVID-19

Member of the Transitional Sovereign Council in Sudan, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Health Emergencies, Dr. Abdul-Baqi Abdul-Qadir Al-Zubair, threatened to close the country if citizens did not comply with the directives of the Committee and the Security and Defense Council, calling for the obligation to wear masks in public places and health requirements.

The Sudanese Ministry of Health stated, in a press statement, that Al-Zubair met today, Saturday, with the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, in the presence of the ministry's senior officials.

A member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council directed the Ministry of Health to be fully prepared and ready to confront the growth and mutation of the Coronavirus, stressing that the rapid spread of the Corona mutant may lead to the complete closure of the country and that the Supreme Committee for Health Emergencies is looking forward to implementing its directives.

He called on government and private agencies to follow the directives of the Ministry of Health to ensure safety for all, and educational institutions to apply health precautions, stressing the need to review the readiness of hospitals and pay attention to medical and health cadres.

On his part, the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health in Sudan said that the spread of a virus in the country requires an increase in the capacity of the isolation centers, as the current situation confirms the growth of infections, while the isolation centers are working with all the capacity available to them.

On the twenty-ninth of November, Sudan announced that the health sector was affected by the suspension of support provided by donors to confront the Corona pandemic and other epidemics.
