A sequel to Zack Snyder’s "Man of Steel" is officially in development, with Henry Cavill set to return.

The 2013 movie kicked off the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) but since its release never received a sequel.

"Man of Steel 2" is still in the very early stages of development, with DC currently in the process of looking for a writer.

Longtime DC producer Charles Roven is on the project and WB has a director wishlist, which includes "Mission: Impossible" director Christopher McQuarrie.

Cavill has not played Superman since 2017 when he played him in "Justice League".

The future of DCEU has been rocky lately due to Warner Brothers’ Merger with Discovery and David Zaslav taking over the studio. This news is a part of a larger DC piece detailing the franchise's future.

The next movie in the DCEU, "Black Adam",  is just around the corner and is also one of 2022's most hyped films.

The project is based on the DC Comics character and sees Dwayne Johnson play Black Adam, an antihero from the ancient city of Kahndaq who has been imprisoned for thousands of years.

The actor has been teasing his potential fight with Superman ever since San Diego Comic-Con this past summer.

"Black Adam", which also stars Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo and Sarah Shahi, is due to be released on 21 October.
