Hector Cuper Appointed as Syria National Football Team Coach

Argentinian coach Hector Cuper was appointed as the new head coach of the Syrian national football team, the Syrian football association announced on Thursday.

It is expected that Cuper and his assistants will arrive in Syria within a few days.

The Egyptian Mahmoud Fayez will be part of Cuper's assisting team and he will hold the responsibility of coach assistant.

Cuper coached the Egyptian football team in 2015, and he led the team to the final of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations which they lost 2-1 to Cameroon. 

In addition, he led Egypt to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the first appearance in the tournament since 1990. 

He left the team in 2018 and was appointed as the coach of Uzbekistan's national football team, and he was sacked in less than a year.

Next, he was appointed the manager of DR Congo in 2021, and was dismissed in 2022 after failing in leading the team to FIFA World Cup.
